One point

When a face of the room is parallel to your picture plane, one set of edges vanishes and the others stay square.

one vanishing pointThe face parallel to you stays a rectangle. Depth runs to one point on eye level.
  1. 1

    The square face

The back wall, or the front of a box facing you, keeps horizontal and vertical edges. It does not become a trapezoid.

  2. 2

    Everything aimed at you

Floorboards, ceiling lines, and the sides of a table pointed at your chest all meet at one point. That point sits on the horizon, in front of you — not in a corner for drama.

  3. 3

    Move yourself

Shift the point and the room slides. If the point is left of center, you are not standing in the middle. Draw the view you actually have.

Drag eye level. Indoors, it still crosses the far wall at the height of your eyes.
