The envelope first

Before the bottle's curves, draw the box it would ship in. Detail added too early freezes a bad proportion.

  1. 1

    Width against height

The whole still life has one bounding box. Is it wider than it is tall? Draw that rectangle lightly and commit to it.

  2. 2

    Then the inner boxes

Each object gets its own box inside the big one. The cup is not as tall as the bottle. Say so with rectangles before ellipses.

  3. 3

    Curves last

Only when the boxes are right do you cut the silhouette. If a curve sticks out of its box, the box was the truth and the curve is the mistake.

Drill

Respect the outer box. Place each object inside it before you follow a curve.
