Eye height at a door
A door is about two meters. Your eyes are not at the head of it. Knowing where they fall calibrates every interior you sketch.
- 1
The door is a ruler
Roughly 2 meters tall, 0.9 meters wide. Your eye height is about 1.6 meters if you are standing. That is four-fifths of the way up the door, not the top.
- 2
Not the handle
The handle sits near your hand, a little above a meter. It is a terrible stand-in for eye level, and people use it anyway.
- 3
Use it in rooms
Once you know eye height on the door, you know the horizon of the whole room. Picture rails, transoms, and the heads of other people lock to it.
