Count in widths
Pick one unit you can see — a door, a brick, a bay — and walk it across the facade before you draw a single window.
- 1
Choose a module
The door is a good one because you know it in your body. Everything else on the elevation is some number of doors wide, or a clear fraction.
- 2
Walk it
In the studio you hold a pencil at arm's length. Here, stack the door's width across the front until you hit the corner. Count out loud.
- 3
Then draw
Windows fall on the count. If a window lands between units, that is a fact about the building, not a failure of the grid.

Still short of the corner. Add another door width.
