Glass is a few lines

Windows fail when they are filled with sparkle. Glass is transparent, so draw the frame, the reflection, and a quieter world behind.

  1. 1

    Frame first

The mullion is the drawing. Get its perspective right and the pane can stay almost empty.

  2. 2

    One reflection

A reflection is a plane in the glass. It uses the same vanishing point as the window. A diagonal scribble does not.

  3. 3

    Behind is lighter

Whatever you see through the glass — a room, a tree — is drawn with less weight than the frame. If it competes, the window becomes a picture hung on the wall.

Drill

Add one reflection that shares the window's geometry, and a lighter hint of what is behind the glass.
