The box comes first
Almost every designed object can be wrapped in a box. Draw the box, then cut the object out of it.
- 1
See through it
Draw the hidden edges. A box you cannot finish on the far side is a guess, and the object inside it will tilt.
- 2
Three sizes
Height, width, depth — say which is largest before you draw. Most boxes fail because depth was copied from height.
- 3
Below eye level
If the box is on a table, you see the top. The top is a plane in perspective, not a diamond drawn from habit.

Drill
Construct the full box, hidden edges included, before you darken the near edges.
